Volunteers
Did you know that SCOT-PEP was set up by working women and men?
SCOT-PEP are looking for volunteers to help run our drop-in and other services.
Our volunteers help provide a safe, friendly, confidential and relaxed atmosphere where service users can get practical support and information from our mobile drop-in. Volunteers will be required to give out information and support on a wide range of issues such as health, legal issues, welfare rights, safe sex (including condom provision) and drug harm reduction. Volunteers will also help provide our street outreach service. Our mobile and street outreach are normally undertaken two nights a week. We require volunteers to meet us at our office at 7.30pm and finish at 12.30 am (a contract taxi will be provided if required). SCOT-PEP expects a minimum commitment of two sessions a month with an induction period of 4 sessions on the mobile and 4 sessions on outreach. In-house training will be provided in these sessions as well as through the Essential Volunteer Training Programme which has eight sessions and is run twice a year. Additional training will be provided as needs are identified.
Required skills
Good communication and listening skills; a non-judgmental attitude; ability to accept everyone's right to self-determine and make their own choices; friendly, approachable and able to work within a team.
